Balmorhea State Park

We stayed here in April and it was the highlight of our trip. We stayed one night in the very well maintained "Motor Lodge". We sat out at night and enjoyed the stars. Bring sandwich makings because there is not anyplace close to eat dinner. Also bring something easy and quick for breakfast because you'll want to be the first one in the pool in the morning. The pool is the amazing!!! The water is magical! We are so lucky to still enjoy what the CCC constructed so classically back in the 1930's. If you are in this area make a point to stop by and take a swim! And stay in the motor lodge. My husband is from Texas and it's crazy how many folks have never visited this gem of mother nature.

This is an excellent state park with a campground, cabin rentals, and a really cool swimming area; although the stairs were very slick from algae. We were there in mid April and the park was quite empty. We went snorkeling in the pool and saw lots of fish. We also saw turtles and a water snake while walking the canals. The campground was nice, but no shade. Our 49 ft 5th wheel was easy enough to navigate the roads but our pull through site #23 was a bit tight with the cement curb. The gazebo we had was so close to our RV we couldn’t put our awnings out and the curb made it so we couldn’t line up our door with the gazebo. We didn’t have much room for our stairs and we had to step over the curb to get in and out. Otherwise all was good. Other sites were set up better with the gazebo further from the RV parking.

Loved my experience and I can finally cross it off my list. Reservations are required, and there is a small fee to enter the park. We brought our picnic supplies and reusable cups for our drinks and tried to leave the park better than we found it. The water is crystal clear and it was fun to snorkel and see all of the little fish swimming with us.

One of my favorite places to visit! It truly makes you feel like you're in a completely different place. I highly recommend it if you haven't been. It's an amazing experience for all ages, especially if you love snorkeling. 🐠🌊💙

Nice place to enjoy the cold water in a hot summer. Limited parking and picnic tables so get there early. We took our camper and stayed there for 2 days, the campground was ok, some spots hard to park not enough large parking lots for big rigs. Some spots had electric issues so we had to move and luckily they had available but make sure to make reservations way in advance. The natural pool is beautiful! I bit scary for me when the bottom is pitch black. You can definitely enjoy this place in just one day because the only thing to do is the pool.
