Fort Leaton State Historic Site

This museum and historic site is absolutely exceptional. It is not to be missed. It is an intriguing story and very detailed in every room is amazing and beautiful. They did a fabulous job renovating and showing how the family lived in the biggest Adobe house in all of Texas. The $5 per person to enter the Big Ben ranch State Park allows you to visit this museum also. It was totally worth it. Inside the gift shop there is a very interesting explanation of the area. The fort Leaton State historic site is not to be missed! I took so many more photos but they only allow me to post 50! Absolutely incredible! I was amazed

Worth a visit. Well restored with an interesting history. A few cool displays. Nice nature path. No charge if you already paid entrance fee to Big Bend Ranch SP.

Very nice laid out nature trail and interesting history of the fort as a place for people traveling west to be safe from bandits! You can walk your dog outside and there are lots of places to have a picnic. I loved all the labeled flora and the bat house was very cool! There is lots of knickknacks inside the fort welcome center and the staff was so helpful and provided all the info. I recommend stopping here to check in if u are coming in to the park from the west side.

What an interesting historical view of early the Southwest and the progression toward settlement. The fort is impressive for it's time and to have been built privately. Must see stop.

Great start to a Big Bend State or National Park visit. Nicely restored facilities, easy nature trail, picnic area, period rooms and furnishings, tools. And an exceptionally friendly, helpful staff in the fun gift shop. Suggest purchasing an annual state park pass so you can explore even more parks along the road.
