Inks Lake State Park

I never love paddling lakes, this is the exception! Beautiful water & full of people having fun on the cliff edges. This park features some of the oldest exposed rock in Texas! The prominent pink-banded rocks jutting out of the landscape are metamorphic rock called Valley Spring Gneiss. It is considered older than Enchanted Rock! It sits on the east edge of the Llano Uplift. It has some of the best views of Pre-Cambrian (600 million years ago) geology in the state. 10/10 Visit. There is AC at headquarters bathrooms. The walk to the water isn’t bad at all for Devils Waterhole and we carry a lot down, it is abit sloped near the parking lot. The rocks are slippery on the climb up the rock, if you decide to jump off the edges! Be aware! There is a lot of campsites here but the camp store was well stocked!

We visited Inks Lake State Park for the day with our dogs and had such a great experience. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, and the restrooms were extremely clean, which we really appreciated. The park itself was beautiful and very peaceful. We had a wonderful day exploring and enjoying the scenery. Definitely a place we would visit again!

We stayed in site 256 unfortunately I will probably not be a repeat customer due to all the little issues we ran into. I don't think most of it was really the staffs fault so I'm still giving them four stars because the staff were super friendly and the devil's waterhole was awesome. The issues unfortunately started as soon as we arrived and they almost all revolved around the other campers. For starters there were people camping in the site next to ours that had their stuff set up in our site when we first arrived. Not cool to try to spread out like that on a busy weekend, especially because the very next issue we ran into was the sheer amount of dog poop, presumably from their three massive dogs, that was literally all over the site. I took a picture of just one little spot but it is a depiction of what the entire place looked like. Then there were the people who decided that it was ok to day camp at that site after the first people left, despite the rules stating that was not allowed. They would've been fine. It would've been live and let live if they hadn't also decided it was ok to sit in our site and put their paddle boards under our hammock. Then there was the poop covered toilet in the restroom bright and early this morning. People are just so inconsiderate and disrespectful. Which leads me to one of the issues with the park itself. Why on earth is there absolutely no ventilation in the restrooms whatsoever? I used two different restrooms while I was there and neither had open windows. Both were sweltering and felt like a really germy and smelly sauna. One other issue with the park, that probably can't be helped is that there aren't many campsites with any sort of access to the water and those with access are through snake infected brush. We really loved swimming in the devil's waterhole area. It seemed safer where there were a lot of people also swimming. The nature we observed (birds, beavers, lizards) were really cool as well.

Gorgeous place. We tent camped by the water in May and had a great time even though we had a flash flood wash us out on night two. We did 't get to hike since we went home early, but we rented a kayak, swam in Devil's Waterhole, and sat at the bird blind watching hummingbirds for a while. We had so much wildlife come right through our campsite. Deer, geese, blue herons, tanagers, a red-tailed hawk, and dozens of cardinals. Bathrooms are old but clean. Nice hot water for showering. Lots of individual all-gender showers that aren't inside a bathroom, which was a nice option.

Newly renovated State Park. Stayed in one of the newly built air conditioned cabins. Hiked the trails. Be aware that trail map color coding does not match actual trail color coding. Trail maps posted to boards along trails are more accurate. Trails include an area with bird blinds for bird watching.
