Moody Mansion

The Museum was very well maintained and clean. They do an amazing job of preserving the Moody mansion and family history. The mansion is filled with great condition artifacts. The staff is super friendly and helpful and are extremely knowledgeable about the moody family. I highly recommend for anyone visiting Galveston. I highly recommend getting the premium tickets because it allows for exclusive access to the third floor and it is only a few bucks more like $20 from what I remember as of June 2026.

Beautifully restored mansion and interesting story behind the Moody family and their relationship with the Galveston community. Overall shift to preserved mansion was not too long ago as Mary Moody occupied the residence for many years. Both historic location and a story about a family who had a definite impact on the Galveston community. We did this recorded tour along with the Bishops Palace down the street. I would give 1.5 to 2 hours for each location. If you do both, it can be your full morning or afternoon.

I am still baffled that they purchased this for $20,000 after a Hurricane. A real life lesson is to be had with that bit of information.

We had a group of three in our party. It would have been nice to have individual headsets to listen to the audio with. It is my personal pet peeve to walk around in a public place with my cell phone speaker on. It would have been nice to wander and listen to the audio but alas we didn't get to hear the audio due to not having headphones. We were greeted by a wonderful docent named Leslie. She shared the rules of the house and gave us a special challenge. We toured the beautiful Romanesque design home. It is absolutely gorgeous inside. The museum "home" is well laid out along with the great personalized notes reminding you to not touch, the wonderful humor and sarcasm were a delight. We wondered the resplendent home and were rewarded with some secret knowledge when we came back to report our challenge findings. Leslie was a joy and taught me several things including the origan of Bidet and provided some juicy "tea" about the house's original owner Narcissa who could had large dreams of grandeur, but not the bank account to sustain the opulence. We will be back to tour again and being sure to bring our earbuds.

Very beautiful and preserved well. We were able to see the fourth floor which was interesting. The young man working upstairs was very helpful and answered all of our questions.
