Tru Jamaica Restaurant

If you’re coming through Waco, Tru Jamaica is a must-try. My friends and I ordered the Chicken curry, Beef Oxtail, and Rasta Pasta, with the coco bread and Mac N Cheese. Every bite was delectable and the owner was very nice and kind to us, I would personally recommend the Rasta Pasta, there is the option to add meat but I went with the owners recommendation of not adding and I am glad I listened! Coco Bread was nice and fluffy and is perfect for mopping up the gravy. I ended up trying the sweet potato corn bread too, and it was like the best parts of sweet potato & pumpkin pie combined. Overall 10/10 is all I can say.

I don’t write reviews often, but Tru Jamaica Restaurant absolutely earned this one. I’ll admit, I was skeptical when I saw the restaurant had an almost perfect rating with thousands of glowing reviews. It seemed too good to be true. After dining here, I completely understand the hype. From the moment we walked in, the hospitality was top-tier. The staff made us feel genuinely welcome, and the food? Outstanding. Every bite tasted fresh, well-seasoned, and made with care. The oxtails were incredibly tender, the rice and peas were packed with flavor, the fried plantains were perfectly cooked, and the steamed cabbage tied everything together beautifully. What impressed me most was that this wasn’t just a great meal—it was an experience. You can tell the owners take pride in their food and in serving the community. That’s something you can’t fake. If you’re driving through Waco—or even if you have to take a slight detour—do yourself a favor and stop at Tru Jamaica Restaurant. It’s one of those rare places that actually lives up to its reputation. I’ll definitely be back.

I Must say the service was great! The young Lady at the counter kept a smile. I assume that the guy was the owner. He kept checking on us and the other patrons, from asking how everything was to refilling drinks. We traveled from California and Houston to meet up there and I must say, it was definitely an Experience.. We were there celebrating a birthday. She had an Amazing time. Thank You for the "Experience!"

I visited today and it was a wonderful experience from the customer service to the decor/design to the food!! This restaurants is absolutely beautiful & gives island vibes. The young woman at the counter and the owner are very personable, it was wonderful talking with them. They checked on us to make sure we were good: The FOOD is delicious. I ordered the jerk shrimp entree which came with rice, plantain and cabbage. I also ordered a beef patty and the pineapple & ginger drink. My plate was CLEAN. Food is fresh & perfect filling portions. I'm visiting from out of town... I'll be back next week. 😂 Seriously, I will be back soon, great experience & highly recommend for Jamaican cuisine.

Got there right when they opened and I'm so glad I did. The goat curry was the star of the show, rich, deeply spiced, and fall-off-the-bone tender. The jerk chicken had that perfect char on the outside with smoky heat that built slowly. The sweet potato cornbread was dense and golden, just sweet enough to complement everything on the plate. And the carrot cake? A generous, moist slice that finished the meal exactly right. Talking with Anecito made the whole experience. His mom is Jamaican, his father Venezuelan, and they met in New York City. He's cooking from her recipes and you can picture what it must have been for him growing up. The aromas, the care, the tradition passed down. Every dish carries that weight in the best possible way. Waco is lucky to have a spot like Tru Jamaica. Highly recommend.
