We learned so much on our visit. This is a fairly new national park destination. It’s very affordable. You don’t have to pay to walk around but you do pay a small fee to get the tour of the exposed dig site. The scenery itself is beautiful. Would be a great place to take a small hike and have a picnic. I was expecting it to be bigger but I was very content with my experience.

I had such a great experience visiting Waco Mammoth National Monument. From start to finish, everything was really well done. The site is fascinating and so unique, especially seeing the actual mammoth fossils in place. It honestly feels like you’re stepping into a real-life discovery site, not just a museum exhibit. I also loved walking through the enclosed dig shelter and seeing the fossils up close ,it’s amazing to think how long they’ve been preserved there. The boardwalk and overall setup make it easy to explore at a comfortable pace, and the whole place feels peaceful and well maintained. Overall, it was educational, exciting, and honestly just really cool to experience. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting Texas, whether you’re into history, science, or just want something different and memorable.

Exactly what you need to do for a unique daytime activity with kiddos. Sure, all National Parks and monuments have Junior Ranger activities and badges and workbooks…but how many include getting to see researchers work? Or creatures unearthed and left in the rock? What about an outside-y feeling…yet AIR CONDITIONED(?) Perk when TX is set to “bake” July/Aug…? YUP. Budget two hours max. It’s not extensive. But the Ranger talks and the active lab are fun. Gift shop? Glorious.

I didn't even realize this place existed until we came down this way and then we had to stop to see it. I am actually quite a bit frustrated because we brought our small dog in a stroller with us and no one told us we couldn't take her into the structure until we got down there at the door and the Park Ranger was a bit rude about it. So we had to take turns standing outside with our dog. I get that there are rules but honestly, our dog is well traveled and she was contained inside her stroller, she wouldn't have possibly been able to hurt anything. The other ranger in the building did answer a few questions that I had about the work being done here very politely which I appreciated. But no one said a word about it to us up front when we purchased our tickets and then the guy at the door was rude so that really took away from the experience for us. We have traveled all over the country and visit National Parks and Monuments often and are happy to support them but we definitely will not be coming back here.

A fantastic experience. About 5 bucks a person. Ranger tours are on the hour. Can tell they all are passionate about caring for the preservation. Really cool seeing a active dig site.
